About Fatema

Originally hailing from Saudi Arabia, Fatema first moved to Australia in 2010. Following her academic pursuits, she earned a Master's in Disability Policy and Practice from Flinders University in 2017. She has cultivated her skills in diverse settings, working with children and adults, primarily with intellectual and neurological conditions.

For Fatema, leading the team allows her to passionately uphold the principles of person-centred care - ensuring that the team not only recognises challenging behaviours and restrictive practices but also advocates for their participants to receive support through a strengths-based approach that enhances their quality of life.

Advocate for People with Disability

With the human rights framework in mind, Fatems's approach towards supporting someone with a disability is primarily focused with the intent of promoting social inclusion, encouraging individual identity, developing skills that help them understand the what's, why's, and how's of their behaviours, and work on their ability to keep themselves and others around them safe via least restrictive approaches.

Beyond Work

Beyond her formal roles, her dedication to service is exemplified through her volunteering at local organisations like Brain Injury SA, Women's and Children's Hospital, and her international experiences in Morocco and Jamaica.

"As someone who is culturally and linguistically diverse, proudly identifies with the LGBTQIA+ community, and lives with an invisible disability, Fatema is driven by the passion to advocate for people with disabilities whose voices deserve to be amplified and find ways to make them feel empowered as a person with a disability."
